Frequently Asked Questions
How do you play CloseWord? βΎ
Type any English word and press Enter. The game shows the semantic rank of your guess - how many words in the vocabulary are closer to the hidden answer. Rank 1 means you found it. Lower ranks = closer.
What does the rank number mean? βΎ
The rank counts how many words are semantically closer to the hidden answer than your guess. Rank 1 = exact answer. 2-50 = same concept area. 51-300 = warm. 301+ = cold.
How do hints work? βΎ
Each puzzle has 3 hints. A hint reveals a word ranked near the answer to help you converge. Best used when your guesses are circling close but not landing.
Daily mode vs unlimited mode? βΎ
Daily mode gives everyone the same puzzle each day, resetting at midnight. Unlimited mode lets you play as many puzzles as you want with randomly selected target words.
Is there a limit on guesses? βΎ
No - CloseWord has unlimited guesses. There's no penalty for wrong guesses. Explore freely.
How to play
1
Start with a broad guess
Enter any common English word. Early guesses are useful even when far away - they map out regions of meaning that are wrong.
2
Read the rank
The rank tells how many words are semantically closer to the hidden answer than your guess. Rank 1 is the answer. Under 50 usually means you're in the right neighborhood.
3
Use hints carefully
Each puzzle has 3 hints. A hint reveals a nearby word and its rank - best used when your guesses are circling but not converging.
4
Find the exact word
The puzzle is complete when a guess reaches rank 1. Your guess list stays sorted by closeness so you can review the path.
